Analysis of Environmental Literacy of Junior High School Students in Tarakan City and Its Influencing Factors
Abstract
The increasingly complex environmental damage needs to be controlled by increasing students' environmental literacy. This study aims to evaluate the level of environmental literacy in junior high school students in Tarakan City, as well as to understand the factors that influence environmental awareness and behaviour. The population in this study were all students at the junior high school level in Tarakan City. The research sample consisted of 60 students in the 2024/2025 academic year and came from 2 schools. The instruments in this study included multiple-choice test questions and environmental literacy questionnaires. The results of the study showed that overall environmental literacy of junior high school students in Tarakan City was in the sufficient category. Environmental literacy in the aspects of ecological knowledge and ecological hope was in the sufficient category, while in the ecological behaviour aspect it was still in the low or lacking category.
